Safe Environment

In response to the Catholic clergy sexual abuse allegations, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) published the Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People in 2005. This document addressed the reconciliation, healing, accountability and prevention that the Catholic Church will be taking to preventing this from happening anymore. 

The Safe Environment program is the Diocese of Salt Lake City's promise to protect children, youth and vulnerable adults from abuse and their pledge to heal those who have been victims of abuse.

All Blessed Sacrament Church employees and volunteers who have direct contact with children, youth or vulnerable adults are required to take Safe Environment training and to have a background check. 

There is no cost to you for doing the training. 

Adult Training: Child & Youth Protection Training (certified for three years)

Youth Minor Training: Volunteering with Children (certified for one year)

Volunteers who are not in contact with minors or vulnerable adults are required to fill out a Volunteer Application form. This form is a volunteer's chance to disclose if they have any record that might hinder our goal of providing a safe environment to everyone. These forms will only be reviewed by Father and the Office Administrator. 

These applications need to be completed by both adult and youth volunteers. Youth volunteer applications will remain on file until the applicant turns 18 years old. If they continue to volunteer, they will be asked to fill out an adult application form. The adult applications only need to be filled out once and will be kept on file until you are no longer volunteering at Blessed Sacrament Parish. 

Applications can be filled out online. Once you have completed the application, please bring it to the Parish Office or send electronically to the Parish Office.
